About FedEx Express Hub Material Handling
Material Handlers at FedEx Express work at the intersection of the air ramp and the indoor sorting facility — receiving freight containers from aircraft, staging them for breakdown, and feeding the high-speed sort system that processes millions of overnight packages before dawn. Unlike ramp agents who work outdoors on the tarmac, material handlers operate inside climate-controlled container breakdown areas where speed, accuracy, and physical endurance determine whether the hub meets its critical sort deadlines.
Position Overview
FedEx Express is hiring Material Handlers at major hub and ramp facilities to manage the flow of freight containers between aircraft operations and the indoor sorting network. You will receive ULD containers from ramp tugs, break them down onto powered conveyor induction points, and stage empty containers for outbound rebuild. This is an indoor hub position with premium overnight shift pay.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive inbound ULD containers from ramp tug operators at the facility container breakdown area.
- Open containers and transfer packages rapidly onto powered conveyor induction belts feeding the automated sort system.
- Identify and segregate priority, oversize, and special-handling packages before they enter the main conveyor stream.
- Stage empty containers and pallets in designated rebuild areas for outbound ULD construction crews.
- Maintain continuous induction pace to prevent conveyor starvation and downstream sort bottlenecks during peak volume.

Must be 18+ years of age. No prior logistics or aviation experience required — FedEx Express provides full paid training. Must pass TSA background screening for secure facility access.
